How To Make Your Own Vases To Decorate?

Porcelain, ceramic and crystal vases with spectacular designs are not always affordable for our pockets. So in order not to force our budget or do without them in the decoration, it is necessary to look for alternatives. It is always possible to find a satisfactory solution to the best of our ability.

You don’t have to be a potter or a creative genius to practice certain tricks to recreate the vases you want. It’s about being resourceful and paying attention to everyday objects that may have another function and, of course, a different aspect.

In other words: you have to take advantage of the elements to give them an extraordinary twist. To help you with this, we provide you with some ideas below.

Ideas to create your own vases

Within the DIY (Do it yourself) trend ,  which translates as “do it yourself”,  there are countless options for creating vases.  Objects that create the illusion that they are made of glass, ceramic, porcelain, etc.

1.- With CD-ROM

If we want a vase with a Moroccan design, colorful and cheerful, we can choose the following:

• First of all, we take a container (which has a shape to our liking).
• Next, we paint it with a unicolor spray (white, black, gold, the color that we like the most).
• Finally, we chop several CDs into pieces and glue them to the surface of the container with silicone. 

There are people who, before sticking the pieces of CD in the container, decide to paint them with markers and apply transparent varnish or lacquer to fix the color.

There are also those who add some small beads and glitters to make the vase more exotic. The scope for action is quite wide in this regard.

2.- With matte paint and string

We can take several transparent glass bottles and apply a couple of coats of matte paint (whatever color we like). In this way, we can  decorate the neck or base with a little thin string.

Jute or hemp can also be used. And, of course, completely cover with string, if we want a more “organic” or “artisan” style.

3.- With spray paint and glitter

Another excellent idea is to take a plastic container (the typical milk bottle, for example) and paint it with glitter spray and add glitter.

It can be painted white and add bronze glitter. Or, you can paint it turquoise and add gold glitter.

In short, there are thousands of combinations that we can try with just these two elements. Mind you, the results are always fabulous!

4.- With snails or stones

Snails and stones can also be used to decorate a glass bottle or a simple ceramic container. You just have to stick them with a little silicone and that’s it.

Now, to create some beautiful vases, we can give the container a layer of cement and add some shells, of the same size, to the base.

On top, you can paint an inverted triangle in a pastel color et voilà. The best thing is that it can be applied to other types of containers, such as pots.

5.- With bulbs

Instead of only resorting to the containers commonly used in the kitchen, we can also incorporate more “unusual” objects. As you know, the perfect number to decorate with several vases is three  and, preferably, of different sizes and shapes.

So if we add a light bulb to the set (decorated with one of the previously exposed techniques) we will achieve a very original result.

6.- With cans

Of course, you can also use cans to create beautiful vases. Thanks to country , vintage and  boho-chic styles , cans have been incorporated into décor in a variety of ways, from pencil holders to centerpieces.

They can be used by following any of the techniques mentioned above. The only difference is that we will have to make sure that the paint used is suitable for that surface. 

If we have a home with a retro touch or a rustic style, vases made with cans will look great. They are usually silver, but we can paint them bronze and “age” them with brown shoe cream. This way, they won’t look like they just got out of the supermarket.

There are many ways to create our own vases. Everything will depend on our taste and the type of decoration we want to achieve.

However, the good thing about these ideas is that they can be combined  to achieve original and beautiful results.
