How To Start From Scratch, No Matter How Old You Are
Sometimes we don’t know how to start from scratch. It is not easy, it is like taking a leap into the void. How to hold your breath while leaving behind things and people to whom it is necessary to say goodbye.
It is quite possible that you yourself have had to start over on more than one occasion. It may be that this “restart” was due to a work issue or originated from an affective, personal or family issue.
One aspect that can sometimes stop us from taking the step and once again building our own paths in search of happiness is thinking that it is too late. We think that being a certain age means, for example, having to give in, shut up and hold on because our opportunities passed.
It is not like this. It is never too late to get out of suffering. In fact, it is an obligation to do so. We suggest you take into account this series of recommendations on how to start from scratch, whatever the problem and whatever your age.
How to start from scratch regardless of your age
Think about your future and ask yourself how you would like to see yourself
If you have doubts, if you are afraid, do the following visualization exercise: imagine yourself in 2 years, but imagine yourself happy, satisfied and calm.
Now, assess how you feel in these moments: there is the reason. More than looking for that ideal happiness, in life it is only about having inner peace, balance, satisfaction. If you don’t feel these same dimensions now, you need to bring about change. You deserve a new opportunity.
Start with small short-term goals
All change requires, first of all, to make small decisions. Little by little they will lead us to take the final step. These would be some examples of those small objectives that we should set ourselves:
- “Today I am going to control my anguish and my fear “: since I am already aware that it is how to start from scratch, I assume and accept my decision. I’m going to trade my fear for inner calm and determination.
- “Today I am going to find information about how I would like to start again”: job offers, help from social services or other official bodies.
You are not as alone as you think: seek support
Without a doubt, starting a new stage causes us fear, anguish. Now, one way to find strength is to feel that someone supports us or understands us on this new path.
- Be smart about seeking support. There will be family or friends who do not advise you well, and even recommend a “don’t do it” or “hold on a little longer.”
- If you are looking for how to start from scratch, look for the proximity of people who have already gone through the same thing as you. They will undoubtedly offer you the best advice and the best support.
Your future is not written and tomorrow may be inhabited by new opportunities
If the past is of any use, it is to teach us, to offer us wisdom, wisdom and maturity. That is something that you have. You are someone wise in terms of life experiences and learnings. It is added value, a weapon of power.
- Think that when we take the step towards change, everything is incredibly new. The new is not bad, it scares us, but it offers us the opportunity to achieve what we seek or desire.
- What you want is first of all to feel good about yourself, to free yourself from anguish, tears. Failure should not determine you, but should encourage you to take a step further and find your particular success.
Take down your own limiting attitudes or thoughts
- “I’m too old, I’m sure I can’t find a job”: think about your skills and be imaginative when it comes to “selling yourself.” More than looking, get them to look for you because you provide quality or something new. Make use of your creativity.
- “I have never been alone. I’m not going to get by ”: tear down this thought that limits you and understand that loneliness is the reflection of freedom. It is there where you will find yourself again to build your own happiness.
- “I’m sure I fail, everything goes wrong”: forget this idea, you can’t guess what is going to happen or not. Also keep in mind that thoughts generate emotions. A negative thought ultimately generates an equally fatalistic attitude.
- “Surely no one supports me and none of this is going to be worth it”: do not reinforce these types of ideas. The most important support you should have is your own. Later, good friends, the noblest family and people that you will get to know every day will offer you their two cents so that you can build that new life.
Little by little you will realize that everything will have been worth it. Starting from scratch is hard and complex, but keep your goal: you deserve to be happy, you deserve to put aside the days of darkness and discomfort.
