¿Do you question some time? Well, in various non-academic publications they tell us that the human being has, more or less, 576 megapixels. However, there is no conclusive scientific evidence in this regard.

Incredible true? The normal thing is to be able to differentiate about 10 million colors (unless you are a tetrachromatic woman, of course).

3. Do you know how many times we blink?

On average, we blink about 15 times a minute, which amounts to about 14,280 times a day. However, you should know that, when we are in front of the computer or a mobile phone, fixing our attention a lot, we forget to blink with the same frequency, which is why our eyes become inflamed so often.

So, remember to blink and hydrate your eye when reading this article!

4. Do you have blue eyes?

It doesn’t matter that your vision is 100% perfection today. Throughout our lives, and due to the passage of time, we will end up developing some kind of problem.

Presbyopia or “eyestrain” usually appears between the ages of 40 and 50. At that time, we must set the object at a certain distance in order to discriminate it.

On the other hand, when we reach 70, we will have a very high probability of suffering a new visual problem. You’ve probably guessed it by now:  cataracts.

7. Heterochromia

Another curiosity about the eyes is that many newborns come into the world with light eyes and then, over the months, they show a brown or black color. Why it happens?

This is due to the melanin present in the iris. The cells that produce this protein are still very immature and produce a very low level of melanocytes. Hence, they are sometimes born with blonde hair and light eyes. After 6 months, they will already acquire their definitive physical features.

9. The eyes of animals

  • Goldfish ( Carassius auratus ) are really pretty. However, there is one aspect that catches our attention: They do not have eyelids! Which means they have to sleep with their eyes open.
  • This fact is also interesting: dolphins sleep with one eye open. This is because they must keep half of their brain “awake” to keep breathing and floating in the sea. Amazing!
